How we came to love Anatolians!
When we first bought our house in the country I couldn't wait to start my hobby farm! My family raised chickens and I really missed having farm fresh eggs. We purchased our first set of chicks and became addicted to raising them! Every time we went to a farm store we came home with more. We decided to raise meat chickens and that is when we found out that a few of our neighbors' dogs really like our chickens too. Most of our neighbors stopped trying to raise chickens because the predators got to them all. We also have a growing population of mountain lions. They have been sighted only a few miles from our house. I became worried about the kids playing outside by themselves so I started researching " Livestock Guardian Dogs".
After more research we got our first puppy Luci! She is now over four years old and is a wonderful dog that has kept everything off of the property. It is amazing to watch her lay in the yard and dash off at a high rate of speed (up to 35 mph!) to chase something off that is getting too close. She even knows what type of hawk she needs to chase off! She will run under it until it has flown past the property and then watch it until it is a good distance away. She will bark and warn, and only as a last resort, attack if the intruder is persistent. She has been absolutely wonderful with our children and the chickens. We would put the chicks right on top of her and she would just lay there. We don't have to close the chicken coop at night anymore! A few years ago, we got the kids three kittens as early birthday gifts. We gave Luci a command saying that they are ours and she has to protect them. I would say that it took her a couple of days of trying to figure out what those little bundles of hissing were. The kittens got used to her also and now they all sleep together outside!
We then decided that Luci needed some help around here. We then acquired our boy pup Cisco Khan. He and Luci make a great team. He is over three years old now and weighs 155 lbs!
Cisco is out of Buck and Annie from Diamond Acres Ranch and Luci is out of Oh Laverne and Max from Pearls Anatolian Shepherds. Unfortunately, we lost Luci while she was doing her guarding job.
OUR LOVE FOR POODLES!
I grew up with poodles and have always had a love for them. They are so much fun and such good companions. We decided to get our kids their own pups to help with anxiety and emotions they were dealing with. They have really helped the kids! We got Finn(Sire) and his sister Faye right before the pandemic hit in March 2020, and we were able to get Nutmeg(Dam) in June of 2020.
About Angel:
Growing up on my parents' hobby farm I developed an affinity for animals. During my high school years I worked at a Veterinary Clinic which furthered my love for animals and gave me a thirst for knowledge. I attended Front Range Community College to become a Veterinary Technician. My last year of schooling was hands on animal rotations at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I also worked on the cleaning crew every night at CSU VTH and was able to learn a lot more outside the classroom.
After graduating from college with honors I worked for a Veterinarian in Boulder Colorado that specialized in holistic treatment for animals. Marriage took me to upstate New York where I sharpened my Vet Tech skills. We decided to start growing our hobby farm and relocated to North East Kansas. I now enjoy working full time around our hobby farm raising kids and animals.
